Everlight Electronics Has Won Two Contracts From The Kaohsiung City Government

Taiwan-based Everlight Electronics has won two contracts from the Kaohsiung City Government, southern Taiwan, to each supply about 10,000 LED street lamps, and together with contracts obtained from the Taipei City Government, will ship nearly 50,000 LED street lamps in total by the end of the second quarter of 2013.

Taiwan's Bureau of Energy plans to switch a total 250,000 street lamps to LED lamps in Taiwan. According to industry sources, the bids have been encouraging suppliers to use Taiwan-made chips, components, power supply and heat dissipation devices. Many firms lowered prices in order to obtain the bids, and with maintenance and guarantee charges also taken into consideration, successful bidders may not gain profits from the projects.

Taiwan's government plans to subsidize LED light bulb procurement in two stages beginning in February 2013. The subsidy benefactors will be the 220,000 low- and medium-income households and social welfare agencies. The budget will be around NT$230 million (US$7.9 million) for 500,000 LED light bulbs.
