With a rise of 6.14 percent, Pakistan's textile exports reached US$ 10.75 billion during the first 10 months of the current fiscal, as compared to exports of US$ 10.13 billion made during the corresponding period of previous fiscal, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data showed. The items that positively contributed to textiles export growth include cotton yarn, whose exports grew by 26.08 percent from US$ 1.47 billion in July-April 2011-12 to US$ 1.85 billion during the review period. Likewise, cotton fabric exports surged by 11.31 percent year-on-year from US$ 2.01 billion to US$ 2.23 billion, yarn other than cotton yarn by 12.93 percent from US$ 29.48 million to US$ 33.29 million and knitwear by 2.36 percent from US$ 1.62 billion to US$ 1.66 billion.
Exports of made up articles except towels and bedwear soared by 2.45 percent year-on-year and grew from US$ 475.84 million to US$ 487.51 million, while exports of other textile materials rose by 31.14 percent from US$ 250.12 million to US$ 328 million. Bedwear exports also surged by 1.03 percent year-on-year from US$ 1.45 billion to US$ 1.47 billion during the period, while towel exports jumped by 16.8 percent from US$ 554.26 million to US$ 647.36 million, that of tents, canvas and tarpaulin by 47.2 percent from US$ 69.35 million to US$ 102.09 million and readymade garments by 11.82 percent from US$ 1.319 billion to US$ 1.475 billion.
Items that posted negative export growth include cotton carded or combed, whose exports declined by 48.75 percent year-on-year from US$ 11.62 million to US$ 5.95 million and art, silk and synthetic textile, whose exports slumped by 26.61 percent from US$ 433.66 million to US$ 318.25 million. Raw cotton shipments also witnessed a massive fall of 68.15 percent during the period, and dipped from US$ 433.34 million to US$ 138.07 million, PBS data showed.
