Game has raised $222,344

An officially licensed Mega Man: The Board Game has been successfully backed on Kickstarter.

The game, deemed a 'love letter to one of the best video game characters of all time' by creator Jasco Games, has raised $222,344, more than double the inital $70,000 goal, and there are still 33 days left of the campaign.

"We have launched this Kickstarter for two reasons," said Jasco Games on the Kickstarter page.

"First, and most importantly, we're seeking funding to make this the board game we always wanted to make. Kickstarter funding will allow us to use better materials, offer more extras like miniatures, cards, extra boards, and polish the finalized product, giving fans an even better experience and something that will be worthy of any Mega Man enthusiast's collection.

"Second, we wanted fans to have a chance to show their support for Mega Man and be involved in this exciting process."

Mega Man the Board Game is a two to eight player 'side-scrolling' board game where players control their character and Dr. Wily's forces as they attempt to hinder the progress of other players.

The game includes four pre-constructed player decks (40 cards per deck), four Mega Man game pieces, four Robot Master game pieces and other pieces, as well as more additions being made with further donations including full colour figures if $500,000 is reached.

Jasco's contract with Capcom limits the board game to sales in North America only, but if the Kickstarter raises enough funding, Jasco will open talks centred around extending its licensed territory with Capcom.
