World Pig Iron Production Amounted to 880.34 Million Mt, Rising by 5.3 Percent

In the first nine months of this year, world pig iron production amounted to 880.34 million mt, rising by 5.3 percent compared to the same period of 2012, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

Meanwhile, in September this year global pig iron production amounted to 97.2 million metric tons, decreasing slightly by 0.8 percent compared to August and up nine percent on year-on-year basis. In September, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 74.7 million mt, up by 10 percent, with 59 million mt produced by China, up by 11 percent, 6.9 million mt produced by Japan, up by three percent, and 4.1 million mt produced by India, up by 13 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in September this year EU countries produced 7.8 million mt pig iron, while CIS produced 6.8 million mt of pig iron, with a rise of six percent and decline of one percent respectively, year on year.
