In November 2013 compared with October 2013, the seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade rose by 1.4% in the euro area (EA17) and by 1.2% in the EU28, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In October retail trade decreased by 0.4% and 0.5% respectively. In November 2013 compared with November 2012 the retail sales index increased by 1.6% in the euro area and by 2.0% in the EU28.

In November 2013 compared with October 2013, "Food, drinks and tobacco" increased by 1.1% in the euro area and by 0.9% in the EU28. The non-food sector increased by 1.9% and 1.7% respectively. Among the Member States for which data are available, total retail trade rose in nineteen and fell in Malta (-2.1%) and Romania (-0.3%). The highest increases were registered in Portugal (+3.1%), Luxembourg (+2.3%), France (+2.1%), Spain and Poland (both +1.9%).

The highest increases were observed in Luxembourg (+12.6%), Poland (+7.2%), Bulgaria (+6.2%), Estonia (+5.7%) and Latvia (+5.0%).
