The Aggregate Shipbuilding Output in China Totaled 13.78 Million Deadweight Tons

In the January-April period of this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China totaled 13.78 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 11.9 percent year on year, according to the figures released by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI).

In the given period, China's new ship orders amounted to 11.57 million dwt, up 57 percent year on year. As of the end of April, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 104.73 million dwt, down 24.8 percent year on year, and down 2.1 percent as compared to the end of 2012.

In the first four months, the total industrial output of large and medium-sized shipbuilding enterprises in China amounted to a value of RMB 101.3 billion ($16.3 billion), down 18.9 percent year on year.

In the January-April period of this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 11.45 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 9.6 percent year on year and accounting for 83.1 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China. In the given period, China's new ship export orders amounted to 10.57 million dwt, up 89.4 percent year on year and constituting of 91.36 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of April, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 89.43 million dwt, down 23.5 percent compared with the same date of the previous year.
