German carmaker BMW is planning to begin assembling its 1-Series hatchback and the 7-Series sedan models in India in 2013.
The carmaker is also planning to launch the 1-Series in mid-2013, while the new version of the 7-Series is expected to go on sale by end of 2013.
BMW already assembles its 3-Series and 5-Series models, the X1 sport-utility vehicle (SUV) and the diesel-engine powered X3 SUV at its facility in Chennai which has a capacity of assembling about 11,000 vehicles per year.
BMW India also imports vehicle models including the X5, X6 and the 6-Series.
The carmaker is also planning to launch its X6 crossover which wil be offered with both gasoline and diesel engine options.
During the initial ten months of 2012, BMW sold about 7,389 vehicles in India.
