Netflix has released plans for the creation of a pair of festive socks that will maximise your viewing this Christmas.
We're used to new original Netflix releases bring critically acclaimed TV series and films, with the odd terrible Adam Sandler "effort" thrown in for good measure.
But the company's latest big thing is a light-hearted DIY project. It's called Netflix Socks, and it involves the creation of a pair of foot-warmers that also alert you when you fall asleep.
The idea, of course, is to prevent those disorientating occasions where you fall asleep during an extended Netflix binge and can't remember where you got to when you awake. We've all been there.
Netflix has created a web page that talks you through the design of these Netflix Socks, step by step. You'll need to be able to knit, and Netflix also warns that "you'll need an understanding of electronics and microcontroller programming, and be comfortable around a soldering iron."
We're not sure which is more daunting, to be honest.
Provision has been made for incorporating designs based on your favourite Netflix programme, whether it's the burning boat of Bloodline or a "Pinot Noir" motif from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
The sleep detector, for its part, is based on the actigraphy method. This means that an accelerometer detects when you've stopped moving for a prolonged period of time and triggers the pause command. Don't worry, you get a warning flash at the top of the socks when the pause command is about to be activated, so you'll know to shift your leg.
All in all, it seems like an extravagant project for such a simple everyday issue. But hey, it's something to do with your family this holiday period.
