Stockings–be it of any variety from sexy sheer and delicate lace to conventional ones–have always been a favourite wardrobe must have for the fashionistas of the western world.
Besides keeping legs warm in chilly wintery months,this fashion accessory also adds to the oomph factor by creating an optical illusion of well-toned long legs.
These are now increasingly becoming a hit among chirpy teenage college goers and stylish working women of contemporary India.
"Yes,definitely the demand for stockings has increased and the primary reason for the rise in demand is that it fits very well and fulfils the utility requirements of everyday clothing,"designer Vaishali Shadangule told fibre2fashion.
"It's very user friendly,comfortable,cost-effective,has easy maintenance and can be worn with a variety of outfits,"adds the Madhya Pradesh born designer who excels in creating designs from Indian-hand woven textiles.
When asked about the current trend of colourful stockings,Shadangule opines,"Indian clothing trends have a vast range of color pallets,so clearly there is a scope in that segment and if marketed well then stockings can contribute a lot in that range."
Designer Aniket Satam also thinks that stockings are doing pretty good in this season."For people who prefer to wear short dresses,wearing stockings can help them remain conservative and at the same time comfortably stylish."
"Different patterns in stockings,including block,digital or flashes of prints,are doing pretty well than the regular ones,"gushes the young designer,whose designs are being favoured by the likes of Miss Earth 2010 Nicole Faria and Bollywood actress Amrita Rao.
"Indians are very attracted to colours and the color block pink is a trend in 2013.So I think investing in a good range of color block stockings is a good investment for the upcoming season as well,"says Aniket about colourful stockings.
According to designer Jenjum Gadi,"Stockings can be seen in winters all the time,and they would always be a part of street fashion because it is liked by young girls."
"Teenagers always like colourful things,so I think there will be a demand for colourful stockings,"answers the Satya Paul and Rohit Bal-trained designer when quizzed about the present craze of colourful stockings.
