Y.F. Estimated Price Point for LED Light Bulbs Will Drop to The US$10"Sweet Spot"

Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. Chairman Y.F. Yeh, whose company is the world’s No.1 LED packager, estimated price point for LED light bulbs will drop to the US$10 “sweet spot” in the second half of this year, a critical point where massive demands are estimated to be triggered. Yeh pointed out that a 6W LED bulb went for the prohibitive US$100 apiece when it was first launched many years ago. But the prices have since collapsed steeply. He estimated brisk demands for LED light bulbs at the sweet spot of price point will definitely drive up the company’s revenue for this year. The company saw its revenue for 2011 dip 2.58% from a year earlier, to NT$16.2 billion (US$541 million at US$1:NT$30) due chiefly to an oversupply of the industry worldwide. Yeh noted that LED market will remain hazy in the firs quarter this year before turning bright in the second half, when the US$10 spot comes in sight. The company has ventured into the LED lighting fixture sector after setting up Everlight Solid State Lighting Co., Ltd. It has introduced a spate of lighting fixtures, including desktop lights, streetlights, light bulbs and grow lights. Yeh pointed out that his company is marching into the horticultural sector using its grow lights. He felt that the horticultural industry using LED lights would create huge business opportunities when people begin thinking of securing steady agricultural harvests with plant factories.
