Global LED tube lighting shipments in 2013 will increase to 220 million units to account for 5.5% of the entire lighting market, as LED tube lights' luminous efficiency reaches 110lm/W, which is comparable to that of fluorescent ones, Digitimes Research estimates.
In the Japan market, 21.72 million LED tube lights will be shipped in 2013, taking up 9.9% of the global total, with Panasonic estimated to have about 50% of the LED tube lighting segment in Japan, Digitimes Research believes.
LED chips account for 51.1% of the production cost for 4-foot T8 LED tubes, heat-dissipation materials for 17.6%, power supply modules for 12.1%, FR4 boards for 6.4% and others for 12.8%.
Own-brand vendors are expected to lower retail prices for 4-foot T8 LED tubes to US$48.3 on average in 2013, dropping by 25.7% from 2012.
