LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker Epistar expects LED applications to account for 30% of total revenues in third-quarter 2013, up from the current 20-25%, due to increasing demand.
As production capacity for blue-color LED (InGaN) chips has been fully occupied since the beginning of May, Epistar said it has had to accept orders selectively and adjust product mixes. Epistar has received many orders with shipments scheduled for June, the company noted.
Uutilization of production capacity for AlGaInP (yellow/red color) LED chips stands at 70-80% currently mainly due to weaker demand for LED display panels from China, but it is expected to reach to beome stronger in the third quarter, Epistar indicated.
Epistar will begin volume production of LED chips for use in new lighting products at the end of the second quarter. With LED lighting product price fall stimulating demand, Epistar said it expects its LED lighting applications to significantly increase beginning from the third quarter.
