China imported 35.91 million metric tons of coal in January, up 17.5 percent from the same month of 2013, according to preliminary statistics released by the Chinese General Administration of Customs. The value of China's coal imports in the given month amounted to $2.9 billion, rising by 4.9 percent from a year earlier.
Meanwhile, China exported 680,000 mt of coal in January, down 7.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, with the export value slipping by 26.6 percent year on year to $88.05 million.
