Taipei,Oct.12,2012(CENS)--Acer Inc.,Taiwan-based international personal computer(PC)maker, recently announced the prices of its first Windows 8 Ultrabook, the Aspire S7,on its U.S.website,ranging US$1,200 to US$1,650 and similar to Apple`s Macbook Air.
Some institutional investors say all the Windows 8-OS portable devices as tablets and notebook PCs are too expensive, implying that the higher prices are due to software royalty charged by Microsoft.
Other major PC makers have also announced pricing strategies for Windows 8 products, including Asus and Lenovo, while the Windows 8 software will be launched on October 26.
The entry-level Aspire S7 model is equipped with 11.6-inch screen,128G Solid State Drive(SSD),touch-screen functionality, which institutional investors still deem not very affordable.
Industry sources say Asus reportedly plans to launch a Windows 8 tablet PC model priced at US$599,with Lenovo`s Windows 8 tablet with keyboard base and Office2013 OS priced at US$799;while Apple`s new iPad,however, retails for US$499.
