PLDA Elects New President

The Professional Lighting Designers'Association has elected a new president and hosted a meeting at Light+Building which could herald an era of closer cooperation with the IALD and other global lighting designer associations.

Herbert Cybulska, who has been a partner at German architectural lighting design practice L-Plan since 2006,was unveiled as Francesco Iannone's successor as PLDA president at the biennial event in Frankfurt.

At the same time,PLDA hosted a meeting with ten lighting associations from around the world to discuss the issue of credentialing for lighting designers. The purpose of the meeting was to advance moves towards formal recognition of the lighting design profession by sharing declarations and other initiatives that aim to define the role of an architectural lighting designer.

Founding member and outgoing president Iannone convened the PLDA meeting,in which the ten associations agreed to establish a network for the sharing of information and official lines of communication at association level.

The meeting included presentations outlining recent developments to the PLDA Declaration of the Official Establishment of the Lighting Design Profession, the CELMA Lighting System Design Energy Label, and the IALD Global Architectural Lighting Designer Certification Programme.

IALD president Kevin Theobald, who gave the latter presentation at the event said:"I am really pleased with the level of interest from a wide range of building and design professionals from all around the world on this important initiative."
