The tech community is split over the Apple Watch, and so too is the co-founder of Apple.

Steve Wozniak isn’t so sure the Apple Watch is a good idea, and says it could be one of CEO Tim Cook’s failures.

The Apple co-founder answered questions in a Reddit AMA session last night, including: “What is Tim Cook doing right/wrong in your opinion?”

“I worry a little bit about – I mean I love my Apple Watch but, it’s taken us into a jewelry market where you’re going to buy a watch between $500 and $1,100 based on how important you think you are as a person,” said Wozniak.

“The only difference is the band in all those watches,” he continued. “Twenty watches from $500 to $1,100. The band’s the only different? Well this isn’t the company that Apple was originally, or the company that really changed the world a lot.”

The Apple Watch price has been a pain point for customers and reviewers, many of whom aren’t sure the costly bands are worth the hefty mark-up.

But Wozniak isn’t entirely unconvinced by Cook as a CEO, and says he thinks the Apple boss has been doing a great job overall.

“Everything else, I’m very approving of Tim Cook, because every time we have a new iOS update, I’m very happy that it’s doing things that really affect people,” said the Apple co-founder.

“I love the software, and I love the hardware, and nothing’s letting me down. So I approve very strongly of Tim Cook and the new Apple,” he continued.

Wozniak added: “I dearly miss Steve Jobs too, but, that’s all.”

Apple is rumoured to launch a next-generation Apple Watch 2 later this year.
