World Pig Iron Production Amounted to 192.39 Million Mt, Rising by 1.60% in Feb

In the first two months of this year, world pig iron production amounted to 192.39 million mt, rising by 1.60 percent compared to the same period of 2013, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

Meanwhile, in February this year global pig iron production amounted to 91.33 million metric tons, decreasing by 9.63 percent compared to January and down 1.02 percent on year-on-year basis.

In February, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 70.16 million mt, down 1.56 percent, with 55.39 million mt produced by China, down 2.91 percent, 6.22 million mt produced by Japan, down 2.11 percent, and 4.04 million mt produced by India, up 4.72 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, in the same month EU countries produced 7.75 million mt of pig iron, while the CIS produced 6.27 million mt, with an increase of 7.79 percent and a decrease of 2.70 percent respectively, year on year.
