The global output of textile manufacturing sector increased by 4 percent year-on-year during the second quarter of 2013, according to the 'World Manufacturing Production: Statistics for Quarter II, 2013', released by the Statistics Unit of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).   Textile production in developing and emerging industrial economies (EIE) increased by 6.3 percent year-on-year during the April-June 2013 period, while production in industrialized economies dipped 1.4 percent y-o-y during the same period, according to the report.   Global manufacturing in the wearing apparel and fur sector increased by 3.7 percent y-o-y during the three-month period. Production in developing and EIE nations rose 8.9 percent during the period, while it fell 7.4 percent in the developed economies.   The production of wearing apparel especially rose in India, Indonesia, South Africa and Turkey.  

UNIDO has also released the revised estimated growth rate of manufacturing sector for the first quarter of 2013.  According to it, global textiles manufacturing increased 4.2 percent y-o-y while wearing apparel and fur production rose 5.4 percent y-o-y during January-March 2013.   Textiles and wearing apparel production increased 7.1 percent y-o-y and 9.9 percent y-o-y respectively, during the first three months of the current year in the developing and EIE nations.   On the other hand, textiles and garment output declined 2.9 percent y-o-y and 4.5 percent y-o-y respectively, in the developed nations during the January-March quarter, the UNIDO data showed.
