Alcoa Plans to Idle Its Canadian Three Quebec Smelter Capacity

Alcoa plans to idle its Canadian three Quebec smelter capacity if the company fails the power agreement with the Canadian public unit Hydro-Quebec energy. In theory, the total capacity of three smelters is 953000 tons. Alcoa has demanded for the cut of electricity prices because the entry into force of a tax rate on January 2015 will be significantly increase energy costs and the smelter wills completely lost competitiveness. Three smelters are Bécancour, Deschambault and Baie-Comeau smelter respectively.
