BT Sport and Timeline Television Implemented a Data Transfer and Automation Platform

BT Sport and partner Timeline Television have implemented a high-speed data transfer and automation platform from Aspera for BT's live sport coverage.

Aspera's fasp transfer solution and Orchestra workflow automation software were the specific products chosen.

Chiefly handling the data workflow between the BT Tower in central London and the telecom operator's new Stratford production studio, BT needed a solution that, as well as providing a "seamlessly integrated" dataflow between the premises, also provided the very fastest dataflow possible for an ambitiously aggressive product schedule.

"This project needed to be completed within a very tight timescale and the new infrastructure needed to provide BT with the most advanced tools on the market," said Charlie Tear, technical director at Timeline Television.

"It made sense for us to select proven, reliable and leading technologies such as Aspera fasp and Aspera Orchestrator to ensure the project was completed on time and workflow productivity was fully optimised.

"Aspera has delivered on all these fronts," added Tear.

BT's new channels, which include BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN, are all to broadcast from iCITY, a new digital broadcasting hub based in the former International Broadcast Centre (IBC) at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

BT Sport 1 began broadcasting on 1 August 2013, with the other channels to follow shortly.

"We believe talent attracts talent and our partnership has helped us to foster that mind-set," commented Jamie Hindhaugh, COO of BT Sport.
