Reusable plastic packaging systems provider in the US, Buckhorn is set to launch a collapsible 60-gallon plastic drum, designed for the food, powder and liquid handling markets.
The new recyclable drum has a 24" x 20" x 40" footprint and comprises three main components including a base, sidewalls and lid, all of them designed with offset surfaces and interlocking flanges to avoid cracks in the joints and reduce the potential for contamination.
According to the company, the drum consists of two security tie holes per lid and the smooth inside and outside surfaces of the sidewalls enable ease of cleaning. The drum can be folded flat in seconds, as the sidewalls are also hinged in the center for a one-way inward fold.
The drum has smaller footprint and works with wood pallets or Buckhorn's Universal Pallet. Its rectangular design allows four assembled drums to interlock and cube a 48" x 40" pallet, stacking five pallet loads high in storage.
Buckhorn sales and marketing director Rob Tieman said the company's research has shown customers are demanding a collapsible alternative to the steel, fiber and plastic drums currently in their systems.
"Buckhorn is committed to providing customer-driven innovations that maximize returnability, reusability and sustainability across a variety of markets," Tieman said.
