Marie Antoinette Was Sold at an Unbelievable Price

A pair of dainty silk slippers worn by the historically famous queen of French monarch King Louis XVI, ‘Marie Antoinette’, was sold at an unbelievable price of € 62,460 at an auction in Paris.

The legendary pair of slippers, believed to be gifted by the profligate queen’s manservant Alexander Bernard Ju-Des-Retz, was initially expected to sell at a cost of around €8,000 to 10,000, by the auctioneers.

The eighteenth century French royal’s 36-and-a-half sized green-coloured slippers features beautiful ornate pink bands across them topped with an elegant silky bow.

Along with the invaluable pair of slippers, a piece of a patterned silk dress owned by the haughty queen before her imprisonment in 1792, during the French revolution, was also auctioned.

Daughter of the Holy Roman Emperor Francis I and Empress Maria Theresa, the historically renowned queen of France ‘Marie Antoinette’ is believed to be partially responsible for the massacre of French Revolution and later was executed by guillotine on 16th October 1793.
