The expansion on the 500,000ft2 addition to the existing facility will facilitate the carmaker house its production of the completely redesigned, Chevrolet Colorado mid-size pickup truck, further retaining 1,260 of the new jobs at the plant.

GM, further, has also added a second shift of 400 workers for manufacturing two of its existing products, the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans, further bringing Wentzville workforce to about 3,000 workers following the expected launch of Colorado production in 2014.

GM said that the exports of Missouri rose 15.4% during the first quarter of 2012, marking a continuing upward trajectory comprising a record $14.1bn in Missouri export sales the previous year.
