Galvanized Steel Sector Is Expected to Account for 56% of China's Refined Zinc Consumption

It is reported that according to state-owned nonferrous metals information division Beijing Antaike, galvanized steel sector is expected to account for 56% of China's refined zinc consumption in 2014. In 2008, galvanized steel sector accounted for 47% of China's zinc demand, this grew to near 54% by 2012. In China, the die-casting alloy sector is the second biggest zinc consumer and in 2008 accounted for close to 30% of Chinese zinc demand, but this year has fallen to around 26%. This year's estimated zinc demand is around 5.65 million tons and Antaike expects this figure to rise to 5.93 million tons next year. The increase in demand is attributed to expectations of stronger demand by end-users in the construction, automobile and infrastructure sectors.
