Delta Electronics is expanding its PV business by acquiring a plot of land in Japan to build a solar power-generation station, company chairman Yancey Hai has revealed.

The Japan project marks the Taiwan-based firm's diversification from being a PV soluttions supplier to a solar power plant operator.

The power plant will adopt Delta's internally-produced PV inverters and solar cells produced by its Taiwan-based affiliate Neo Solar Power, Hai said.

The power plant will come into operation in 2015, selling electricity at a government-specified feed-in tariff rate, Hai said at a June 10 investors conference. Delta has provided about 100 sets of PV power-generating solutions globally, Hai indicated.

Delta will be the exclusive supplier of mini-chokes for use in Apple's new-generation iPhone to be launched in the second half of 2014 and has obtained new orders for power supplies for use in data centers, Hai indicated.

Delta posted consolidated revenues of NT$15.881 billion (US$527 million) for May, decreasing 2.06% sequentially but increasing 6.73% on year. January-May revenues totaled NT$75.132 billion, rising 10.32% on year.
