Stein Mart's Total Sales for The Five-Week Period Ended October 5, 2013 Increased 7.3%

Stein Mart, Inc. reported that total sales for the five-week period ended October 5, 2013 increased 7.3 percent and comparable store sales increased 5.0 percent.

The table below shows total sales for the period ended October 5, 2013 compared to the period ended September 29, 2012, while comparable store sales measures the period ended October 5, 2013 against the respective period ending October 6, 2012.

Linens, ladies' boutique, gifts, ladies' career sportswear and women's posted the strongest sales for the month, while ladies' accessories, men's furnishings, ladies' casual sportswear and petites were more challenged. Geographically, September sales were strongest in Florida, the Southeast and California, while the Midwest and Northeast performed lower than the chain.

The Company operated 263 stores at the end of September this year compared to 261 stores last year. Three stores were opened this month and one store located in Colorado Springs, Colorado was relocated to an improved site. The new stores are located in Buford (Atlanta), Georgia; El Paso, Texas; and Elk Grove (Sacramento), California.
