The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology's (RMIT) Bachelor of Arts (Textile Design) students designed fabric collections as part of an RMIT-Country Road project.
The brand deemed the designs of Megan McNeill, Edith Barrett and Meaghan McLeish the most impressive, awarding them cash prizes and offering Ms McNeill an internship.
"Having the opportunity to potentially have designs go into production is really exciting," Ms McNeill said.
Country Road asked students to create fresh and modern designs for fashion accessories and homewares by reinventing traditional geometric patterns.
"I drew my inspiration for my collection from clean, classic Scandinavian design, while the Bauhaus weavers - particularly Anni Albers - were also a great influence," Ms McNeill said.
"I think it is great that Country Road are supporting young, local, emerging designers through projects like this."
Bachelor of Arts (Textile Design) Program Director Patrick Snelling said this was one of a number of projects RMIT undertook with partners in the fashion and textile industry.
"These projects provide students with valuable learning experiences, enriching and showcasing their design portfolios with real-time projects and workplace experiences," Mr Snelling said.
"Country Road is an iconic Australian brand and they have employed many RMIT textile design graduates within their fashion and homewares teams.
"The 2012 project has been a valuable professional experience for final year students who have worked closely with Country Road staff."
