The BMW 640d Gran Coupe Has Been Released

The BMW 640d Gran Coupe has been released, adding the first ever diesel-powered 6 Series to the local line-up.

Available from March production priced from $184,800 (plus on-road costs), the BMW 640d Gran Coupe is set to join the existing 640i and 650i petrol models – released almost a year ago – and adds the M Sport package as a no cost option.

BMW Australia had initially ruled out the diesel variant when the model launched back in July 2012, but now believes the torque and efficiency of the 640d will help boost Gran Coupe sales.

The 640d Gran Coupe relies on BMW’s 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with a maximum of 230kW of power and 630Nm of torque (from 1500rpm) to power the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

BMW claim a 0-100km/h-sprint time of 5.5 seconds, with average fuel consumption ranging from 5.6 to 5.7 litres per 100km and CO2 emission levels between 148 and 149g/km.

Standard features include colour head-up display, rear-view camera four-zone climate control, adaptive LED headlights with high beam assist, satellite navigation and Bluetooth phone and audio streaming.

Additional features include keyless entry, front and rear parking sensors, heated seats, glass sunroof and 19-inch alloy wheels. 20-inch wheels can be optioned with the no-cost optional M Sport package.

Safety features include front airbags, side airbags, head airbags front and rear, active headrests, stability control with traction control, anti-lock brakes with cornering brake control and brake assist, brake wear indicator and run-flat tyres.
