Supervalu Inc has announced a number of executive leadership changes as new CEO Wayne Sales bids to turn around the US retailer.
The retailer has given executive VP for retail operations Kevin Holt the newly-created position of president of retail.
The expanded role will see Holt tasked with driving the overall strategy of the group's traditional retail and pharmacy divisions, including overseeing the marketing and merchandising functions.
Supervalu, which is reported to be soliciting takeover offers for the business, has also named 35-year company veteran Janel Haugarth to the newly-created position of executive VP of business optimisation and process improvement. She had been executive VP, merchandising and logistics and will now also oversee cost reductions and efficiencies.
In addition, Tim Lowe has been promoted to executive VP of merchandising from his previous role of SVP of merchandising. He was also the president of the company's Shoppers division from 2010 to 2012.
"We are moving quickly to reinvigorate Supervalu, and that starts with leadership," said Sales. "The changes I have made to my executive team are designed to address two of our most immediate priorities: driving profitable sales in our retail stores and taking costs out of the business. These efforts are critical to our successful turnaround."
