The Price Drop of Solar Wafers Has Been Leveling off Around US$1.10-1.20/Unit

The price drop of solar wafers has been leveling off, according to industry sources. Since the beginning of November, the average selling price (ASP) of solar wafers has been steady. The price of 6-inch solar wafers has been around US$1.10-1.20/unit. Industry sources indicated as the price of solar wafers becomes more stable, solar cell makers have been following suit in refusing to lower prices. Solar cell makers have been decreasing capacity utilization instead of accepting orders with low prices. As the market moves toward the traditional low season, the industry believes the low quotes will not stimulate demand effectively, hence they have been holding the lowest quotes around US$0.45/watt. Nevertheless, many cell makers indicated any orders below US$0.50/watt will not be considered. As the price of solar wafer and cells stabilize, oversupply problems in the market seems to be continuing. Demand continues to dominate the market. No one has optimistic views for the market in 2012, said industry sources. Source: www.digitimes.com
