Taiwan-based vendors Asustek Computer and Micro-Star International (MSI) and China-based vendor Colorful Technology have seen shipment and profit growths from marketing bundled motherboards and graphics in the China's DIY PC market, according to PC channels, according to sources from upstream supply chain.
Asustek only shipped less than 1.1 million graphics cards in China in 2014, but the volume is already approaching two million units in 2015 thanks to the new marketing strategy.
Asustek's motherboard shipments in 2015 are expected to reach 10 million units in 2015, helping to offset the shipment declines in Europe and North America and will allow the shipments worldwide to reach 19-20 million units.
As for Gigabyte Technology, the company is currently having difficulties integrating its motherboard and graphics card resources and therefore is not able to market the two product lines together. Gigabyte is expected to ship 9.5 million motherboards in China, 500,000 units less than those of Asustek, while its graphics card shipments in China have also been caught up by MSI.
MSI switched its graphics card distributor in China to Synnex in 2015 and has been seeing its graphics card shipments in the country rising every month.
