Nestle Completed a CHF26m Expansion Project at Its Ice Cream Factory

Nestlé has completed a CHF26m expansion project at its ice cream factory at 6th of October City, Egypt to cater to the increasing demand for Nestlé and Dolce brands.

The project, which includes investment in new manufacturing lines, has created an additional new 200 jobs.

The ice creams produced at the factory are distributed locally as well as exported to north-east African countries, including Jordan, Libya, Lebanon, and Tunisia. The facility also produces the super-premium Mvenpick products, exported to Malaysia.

Nestlé said that Egypt is one of the company's biggest ice cream markets in the world and it has been selling its products in the country for more than 100 years.

The company plans further investments for the plant in the coming years to develop mixing, processing, chocolate coating and cone filling equipment.

Nestlé commenced direct operations and activities in Egypt in 1988, when it acquired Cairo-based Industrie Du Froid company and its Kimo ice cream brand, marking its entry into the Egyptian ice cream market.

In 1995, the company purchased Dolce Co for Food Industries and merged its ice cream manufacturing operations together in 2001.

Nestlé Egypt operates three factories and seven distribution centers, and it employs more than 3,000 staff.

In 2011, it announced three-year investment of CHF160m to increase production at its existing factories and distribution centers, while creating 500 new jobs.
