Possible engines, transmissions, pricing and specifications for what is believed to be the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang have been leaked online via a product marketing survey.
Compiled by market research and consulting agency Morpace, questions from the survey were first published online by a user onenthusiast forum Mustang6G.
The survey asks respondents to “imagine you are buying your ideal sports car similar to the Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang, Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Nissan 370Z, or Scion FR-S (Toyota 86)”, before being asked to answer a series of questions.
Along with proposing a base price of US$23,995 ($25,000) – and later a potential US$21,995 ($22,900) starting price – the survey mentions a 224kW/393Nm 3.8-litre V6 with a highway fuel consumption average of 8.1L/100km as the standard engine.
A 231kW/420Nm turbocharged 2.4-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder averaging 7.4L/100km is also listed along with a flagship 321kW/536Nm 4.9-litre V8 netting 8.4L/100km.
Transmissions suggested in the survey include anticipated six-speed manual and automatic units, as well as more fanciful seven-speed manual and 10-speed automatic options.
The fifth-generation Mustang is currently sold in the US from US$22,200 ($23,100) powered by a choice of three engines: a 227kW/379Nm 3.7-litre V6; a 313kW/528Nm 5.0-litre V8 and a 494kW/855Nm supercharged 5.8-litre V8.
Further questions in the survey relate to preferences for a two-door coupe or a convertible and additional features such as a glass sunroof, 4.2-inch instrument cluster display screen, a head-up display, HID headlights and Recaro sport seats.
Adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring with cross traffic alert, lane departure waning and lane keep assist are also listed along with reverse park assist and a split view camera.
The upcoming sixth-generation Ford Mustang – spied in heavy disguise earlier this year and confirmed for Australia – was recently imagined in computer-generated form (pictured above) by a contributor to the same Mustang forum.
Codenamed ‘S550’, the new Ford Mustang is tipped to be officially unveiled at January’s Detroit auto show in time to mark the famous nameplate’s 50th anniversary.
