On May 17, construction work started on the blast furnace project at Chinese steel producer Baosteel's Zhanjiang steel base, as announced by Beijing-based state-owned China Metallurgical Group Corporation (MCC). CISDI Group Co., a subsidiary of MCC, is responsible for the design work, while Shanghai Baoye Group Corp. is the contractor for the project.
Accordingly, two blast furnaces each of 5,050 m3capacity and their auxiliary facilities will be constructed. The two blast furnaces are expected to produce 8.23 million mt of molten iron, 2.71 million mt of iron slag and 11.9 billion mt of blast furnace gas per year.
Construction of blast furnace No. 1 is expected to be completed in 2015, while construction work on blast furnace No. 2 will start in June 2014 and finish in September 2016.
Meanwhile, construction work on the hot rolled and cold rolled steel production projects at Baosteel's Zhanjiang steel base are expected to begin during the July-September period this year.
