A sedan version of the Chevrolet Sonic RS hatch, badged locally as the Holden Barina RS, will make its world premiere at tomorrow’s Los Angeles auto show.

But Holden, which launched the Barina RS hatch last week, has distanced itself from the RS sedan, insisting that it is solely focused on the five-door variant and has no intentions to bring the four-door to our market at this stage.

Chevrolet plans to introduce the new Sonic RS sedan at the show alongside a second sedan variant based on the Sonic Dusk concept car first seen at the 2011 SEMA show, which combined luxury and sporting touches. Chevrolet says both new Sonic sedan models are intended to attract new, younger customers to the US brand.

The Sonic RS sedan is expected to match the hatch with power coming from a Cruze-sourced 103kW/200Nm turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.

Available exclusively as a five-door hatch, the Holden Barina RS (pictured above) is priced from $20,990 and features a sports body kit, 17-inch alloy wheels, leather-accented sports seats and alloy pedals.

Also on hand at Chevy’s LA stand will be the 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe and convertible, SS Performance Sedan, the track-focused Camaro Z28 and the all-new Chevrolet Silverado.

The 2013 LA auto show begins on November 20.
