Trade Resources Industry Views Speight's Cider of Lion Brewery Is Recalled

Speight's Cider of Lion Brewery Is Recalled

Lion, a New Zealand-based brewery, has issued a voluntary recall on its Speight’s Cider products due to incorrect labeling.

Products under this recall include Speight's Cider 568ml glass bottle sold in six-packs and single bottles with any best before date between 9 June 2013 and 16 January 2014.

The company claims that there is no issue with the formulation inside the bottle, but it contains suphites that are not specified on the packaging.

Sulphites are naturally present in many fermented alcohol products and are often added as a preservative. People who are sensitive to sulphites may have potential health risks.

Lion's External Relations Director Liz Read said that they discovered the issue with the incorrect labels yesterday and have immediately initiated the recall.

"Consumers who are sensitive to sulphites are advised not to consume the product. Consumers should return the product to the store they bought it from for a full refund," Read added.

"We apologise to our trade customers and consumers for any inconvenience caused."
