The Proton Suprima S will be priced from $21,790 driveaway when it goes on sale in Australia in January.
The compact Preve-based hatchback will be offered in two specifications – Suprima S GX and Suprima S GXR – with the flagship variant priced at $26,590 driveaway. Proton is also offering $800 cashback to customers who purchase a Suprima S before July 2014.
The duo will initially be available exclusively with a ‘seven-speed’ automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT), with six-speed manual versions to launch later next year at $19,790 (GX) and $24,590 (GXR).
The Proton Suprima S is powered by the same turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol that debuted in the Preve GXR last month. The engine produces 103kW of power at 5000rpm and 205Nm of torque between 2000-4000rpm.
Proton claims the Suprima S accelerates from 0-100km/h in 9.9 seconds and consumes 8.8 litres per 100km on the combined cycle, putting it 0.3sec and 0.2L/100km behind the Preve GXR.
At 4436mm long, 1786mm wide, 1524mm tall and riding on a 2650mm wheelbase, the Proton Suprima S is 161mm longer, 26mm wider and 64mm taller than the top-selling Toyota Corolla hatch, as well as 50mm longer between the wheels.
Proton describes the Suprima S as the “company’s most comprehensively equipped model introduced to the Australian market”.
Highlights of the Suprima S GX include 16-inch alloy wheels, front and rear fog lights, a trip computer, USB input, four-speaker audio system, Bluetooth phone connectivity, steering wheel audio and phone controls, and a vehicle alarm.
For $4800, the Suprima S GXR adds larger 17-inch alloys, auto headlights and wipers, front parking sensors, push-button start, steering wheel-mounted paddleshifters, cruise control, climate control, leather upholstery, and a seven-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, DVD player and reversing camera.
Like the Preve, the Proton Suprima S is equipped with six airbags (dual front, side and curtains) and electronic stability control, and earns ANCAP’s maximum five-star safety rating.
The Suprima S will be available in five colours: Atlantic Blue, Fire Red, Genetic Silver, Solid White and Tranquillity Black.
A comprehensive aftersales program includes a five-year/150,000km warranty, roadside assistance for the length of the warranty, and free scheduled servicing for the first five years/75,000km of ownership.
