Finnish Company Polkky Took Over Business at The Kajaani Sawmill From UPM-Kymmene

At the beginning of September, the Finnish company Polkky took over business at the Kajaani sawmill from UPM-Kymmene, and thereby increased its total production capacity to roughly 650, 000 m³/year. The two companies had already agreed on a takeover of the UPM plant at the end of June this year after UPM-Kymmene had announced in April that it wished to divest itself by the end of 2012 of the three sites Kajaani, Heinola and Aureskoski. At the time, UPM had looked at both sales of the plants and closures. In subsequent months however, a continuation solution was found for the Kajaani mill, but the concern reports that the Heinola and Aureskoski plants will be shut down at the end of the year.
