Schreiner MediPharm and Edelmann have developed a new booklet label system that enables consumers to access product information without opening the package.
The information is made available on the exterior of the folding cartons, as against the traditional packages that need the consumers to open the seal before accessing the information.
The new labels are said to meet the requirements of the EU Falsified Medicines Directive 2011/62/EU.
The EU directive demands a security seal for the outer or secondary packaging of medicines, for shielding the products from manipulations.
Schreiner MediPharm US president Gene Dul said: "The solution that has been jointly developed with Edelmann maintains the integrity of the folding carton while allowing easy access to the package insert.
"In addition to helping pharmacists comply with new regulations, the Booklet-Label also benefits consumers. Since the booklet is firmly attached to the package, it is less likely to be misplaced."
The multi-page booklet label provides multi-lingual product information and is supplied with a security color-shifting ink to fight counterfeiting.
Germany-based Schreiner MediPharm provides of specialty labeling services to the pharmaceutical industry.
Recently Schreiner MediPharm created a two-layered label with ten consecutively-numbered label parts on which date and administered dosage could be entered by hand.
The ten-part label, capable of being wrapped around a container, can be easily opened and resealed by users.
