International Medical Group (IMG) has improved its flagship marine group medical insurance program, to help ship owners to offer their crew-members a complete coverage for eligible medical expenses.
Known as International Marine Medical Insurance (IMMI), the product is significant due to the enactment of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC, 2006).
The global medical insurer said that the MLC, 2006, came into force from 20 August 2013, which is compulsory under the international law, and it establishes minimum working and living standards for all seafarers on those ships.
The ship owners must provide health protection and medical care to the crew on board their ship, and the IMMI program can assist in preventing the challenges that owners may face.
IMG marine division vice president said that the new group insurance program offers continuous comprehensive medical coverage and helps ship owners to provide quality and dependable protection for their crew.
The policy includes some benefits and optional riders such as $5m maximum benefit per insured person per period of coverage, primary to the vessel's Protection and Indemnity Insurance (P&I), crew member return, optional maritime rider and coverage for eligible dependents available.
In case the insured requires treatment outside the US, IMG works closely with insured crew members to assist them in locating, requesting and coordinating information for care in order to obtain the most efficient and cost-effective care available.
