The Wanganui District Council carried out efforts to replace conventional technology with different LED light sources within the Wanganui City Bridge. In addition, the district council will investigate alternatives for conserving energy resources.
Focused on offering equivalent light levels on the ground while providing sufficient savings to justify the alternative for traditional light sources, Sydney-based engineering firm, Evolve NZ provided a unique solution to the district council by utilizing GE’s 80W R150 LED lamps. The fittings have been supplied by NZ-based local supplier, backed by the support of GE Lighting.
The new GE LED luminaires now illuminate the Wanganui City Bridge. The bridge incorporates 14 new fittings providing up to NZ$9,000 of cost-saving to the Wanganui District Council. It also ensures payback period of 6.2 years.
GE’s LED fitting is an ideal solution compared to the existing sodium lights at the Wanganui City Bridge. These lights offer energy conservation from 165-W to 80-W. Each LED fitting utilizes only 80-W of power. It provides 52% power efficiency than prior sodium light fittings. The new luminaires provide light where it is required, and minimizes the glare to less than 5%. The new fittings can provide illumination without any wastage on upward light leakage. These LEDs have an extended life compared to sodium lights. Furthermore, upon installation, they provide bright radiant light at night, thereby improving safety for drivers. The enhanced color rendition makes security cameras more effective.
The Wanganui District Council will continue to use LED light sources as an alternative to conventional fittings.
