Germany's Crude Steel Output Amounted to 3.6 Million Metric Tons, Increasing 17.65 Percent

In January this year, Germany's crude steel output amounted to 3.6 million metric tons, increasing 17.65 percent from the previous month and up five percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the information provided by the German steel federation Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (WV Stahl). WV Stahl said that January was the fourth consecutive month in which a year-on-year increase was witnessed, following 12 months of contraction on year-on-year basis, noting that German steel industry is currently showing a slight recovery.

In the whole of 2012, Germany's crude steel production fell by 3.7 percent to 42.6 million mt as compared to 2011.

On the other hand, in 2012 Germany's total hot rolled steel product output amounted to 36.5 million metric tons, decreasing 3.8 percent year on year, including 23.7 million metric tons of flat steel products - down six percent year on year, and 12.8 million metric tons of long steel products - up 0.6 percent year on year.
