China based Build Your Dreams (BYD) Auto has received an order for 50 of its e6 electric vehicles (EV) from London based mini cab service provider greentomatocars.
The initial 50 of the new five-seat BYD e6 electric crossovers are scheduled to enter greentomatocars' 300 vehicles fleet by early 2012 with expected customer service from the second quarter of 2013.
London Mayor Boris Johnson said: "It is my aim that London's minicabs and taxis will be zero-emission by 2020, which will have a major impact on air quality."
The e6 will be powered by a 75kW motor and Fe battery, which will allow the vehicle to travel 186 miles on a single charge in urban conditions while offering a top speed of 87mph.
In 2010, BYD had collaborated with Swedish auto maker Daimler to develop a new electric vehicle for Chinese market.
