US-based Kentucky Fried Chicken's(KFC)subsidiary in China will undergo an investigation by the Chinese authorities as its chicken suppliers may have injected banned substances and growth hormones into its poultry.
The move has been initiated after the authorities noticed that a commercial chicken producer in the country,Liu He Zhi Tuan, has been feeding antiviral drugs and growth hormones to its poultry.
This poultry was later distributed to KFC and McDonalds without evaluating the quality, reported the worldpoultry.net.
The Shanghai Food and Drug Administration will test the poultry that was supplied to a logistics centre in Shanghai of the KFC parent company,Yum Brands.
The company has denied the reports that it was feeding the birds with toxic additives.
