Packaging solutions provider MeadWestvaco (MWV) has launched a new customizable medication adherence package under the brand name Dosepak Express with Optilock technology for pharmaceutical firms.
The new packaging is said to help firms develop brand-specific adherence solutions that better fit patients' lifestyles while also meeting regulatory requirements.
Dosepak product line offers global manufacturers the flexibility to implement the packaging with or without child-resistance features, depending on applicable regulatory requirements and manufacturer choice.
Claimed to be 23% smaller than the original Dosepak Express, MWV's new packaging technology uses an advanced locking mechanism, and is said to accommodate the same number and size of pills as the larger package.
MWV's new Dosepak Express features an integrated calendar that stays attached to the outer carton for the duration of the medication regimen.
The calendar in the package allows patients easily track their medications, enabling better pill protection as well as a daily opportunity for patient education and brand messaging.
MWV healthcare president Bruce Thomas said when compared to other adherence solutions available to help patients take their medications as prescribed, the new packaging is different because patients interact with it every day of the medication use.
"The billboard space on Dosepak Express with Optilock technology provides a format for patient educational messaging and links to other adherence programs, which can increase opt-ins," Thomas added.
According to the company, the Dosepak Express with Optilock technology has been developed as part of the company's move to bring awareness and solutions for poor medication adherence.
The outer carton of the package is made of an eco-friendly paperboard-based packaging solution that maximizes the use of recyclable materials and minimizes waste, said the company.
