How2recycle Logos Will Appear in The US to Encourage People to Recycle

Consumer and professional products manufacturer The Clorox Company has announced plans to add How2Recycle logos on product packaging, in an attempt to encourage people to recycle.

According to the company, the new logos will appear in the US on Fresh Step and Scoop Away kitty litter cartons, Green Works laundry detergent and dishwashing liquid, and Oxi stain remover.

The company plans to include the logo on all US and Canada product packaging by 2020.

Expected to be rolled out to other products in conjunction with label redesigns, the logos explain how to recycle or dispose of all elements of the product's packaging properly.

The How2Recycle Label system communicates recyclability across all material types and provides clear directions as to when components of a product's packaging are not recyclable.

The logos have been developed by the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC), of which Clorox is a member, as part of its efforts to drive a compelling environmental vision for packaging.

An online consumer survey conducted by SPC revealed that 80% of respondents felt positive about companies that used the label, and 43% reported they had changed their recycling behavior due to the logos piloted by other members in 2012.
