Investors Could Be in Line to Make Substantial Returns From Free LED Lighting Systems

Investors could be in line to make substantial returns from a new scheme offering companies free LED lighting systems.

Indeed, companies and public sector organisations can now enjoy energy-efficient LED ceiling spotlights fitted for nothing under a new £5 million investment scheme.

An Enterprise Investment Scheme company that was set up by London-based Goldfield Partners is set to install a fully-tested LED system with no upfront cost.

It will earn revenue by way of a five-year maintenance agreement that firms can pay using the energy savings will be made from installing the bulbs.

While the organisations that do benefit from lower bills, investors will be offered a predictable cash flow and tax relief through the HMRC-approved EIS system.

This is designed to channel funds into smaller, high-risk companies, Business Green reports.

Goldfield is expecting to generate returns of £1.17 for every £0.70 invested, adding the firms face no build or construction risks in the fitting of LED systems.

The firm already has solar EIS products and earlier this year it introduced the pension fund aimed at installing £50 million worth of solar panels on to social housing.

Chief executive of Goldfield Partners David Gammond told Business Green he was confident that the £5 million fund would be raised by the end of March 2013.

He continued by stating that despite the new fund being the first he was aware of for LED lighting, there is likely to be plenty of firms interested.

"EIS is a well-established system and LEDs are a common technology - people understand it. If it's successful then we will look to do more schemes," he continued.

More people could be convinced to switch to LED light bulbs in the near future after energy secretary Ed Davey suggested that households could be handed cash back through their electricity bills if they reduce their consumption with the installation of greener bulbs such as LEDs.
