Public Comment Period Has Been Extended on Proposed Plan to Clean up The Peterson/Puritan

BOSTON – The public comment period has been extended on the Proposed Plan to clean up the Peterson/Puritan, Inc. Superfund Site, Operable Unit 2 (OU 2), located in Cumberland and Lincoln, R.I. The public comment period, which began on Aug. 8, will now end on Nov. 4, 2014.

A formal Public Hearing will be held on Aug. 21, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. in the Cumberland Public library (Large Meeting room), located at 1464 Diamond Hill Road in Cumberland, R.I. During the formal hearing, the public is invited to provide verbal comments on EPA’s Proposed Plan for OU2 that will be recorded as part of the public record for the Site. EPA will not be responding to comments at the hearing but will provide written responses in a Responsiveness Summary which will be a part of the OU2 Record of Decision for the Site.

 Copies of the proposed plan will also be made available in the Peterson/Puritan, Inc. Superfund Site repository located at both the Town of Lincoln and Town of Cumberland Public Libraries. Copies of the proposed plan may be requested by contacting Sarah White of EPA at 617-918-1026.

The main components of OU 2 include the J. M. Mills Landfill, the Nunes Parcel and an area between these two areas called the “Unnamed Island.” The Site is located within the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor.
