New recyclable and lightweight wood fibre products with lower raw material and production costs could be possible as a result of foam-forming technology developed in Finland. VTT Technical Research Centre, which is setting up a pilot-scale platform for applications, says the technology improves paper products and enables the manufacture of high porosity, smooth and lightweight products such as insulation materials. “Large amounts of air are mixed with the fibre and the technology reduces water and energy consumption while saving raw material, ” said VTT technology manager Janne Poranen. Industry partners in the venture include UPM, Stora Enso, M-Real and Metso. Source: ttjonline.com
