Automotive batteries supplier,Johnson Controls has opened a new $150m automotive battery recycling plant in South Carolina, US.
The new Florence Recycling Center is expected to recycle 132,000 metric tons per year, or the equivalent of more than 14 million automotive batteries.
The company said that planning and construction for the site on Paper Mill Road in eastern Florence County took about three years.
The new plant built on 36 acres has created about 250 new jobs and 1,000 indirect jobs in the area.
South Carolina Senate Hugh Leatherman said, "The steps taken by Johnson Controls to maximize economic impact and minimize environmental effects on our area are commendable and extremely important to our citizens."
